Terms and conditions

Plain terms for a free reference site. Read them once and you will not need to again.

Who runs this site

familytreetargaryen.com is an independent reference work about House Targaryen, run by a private individual rather than a company. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. Using the site means you accept the terms on this page. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site.

What you may do with the material

The charts, the written explanations and the portrait illustrations on this site are original work. You are welcome to:

  • read, print and share the pages for personal use;
  • download the printable poster, print it at any size, and hang it wherever you like;
  • quote a passage or embed a chart image in an article, a video or a school project, as long as you credit familytreetargaryen.com with a visible link.

What is not permitted without written permission: republishing whole pages, selling the poster or the portraits, or feeding the site wholesale into a product that resells it as your own. Citing the site is welcome. Copying it is not.

What belongs to other people

House Targaryen, the characters, the place names and the histories described here are the creations of George R. R. Martin, published in A Song of Ice and Fire, Fire & Blood and related works, and adapted for television by HBO. Those names and stories are the property of their respective owners.

This site is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to George R. R. Martin, HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery or any of their licensees. No official artwork, screenshot or footage is reproduced here; the portraits are original illustrations made for this site and are not likenesses of any real person or performer.

Accuracy, and its limits

Dates and relationships are taken from the published books and cross-checked against them, and the sources page sets out exactly how. Where the canon contradicts itself or leaves something open, the chart says so rather than guessing: disputed parentage is drawn with a dashed line, and a contested claim is labelled.

Even so, this is a fan reference compiled by one person. Mistakes are possible, sources disagree, and new material can overturn what was settled. The site is provided as it is, without any warranty that it is complete or free of error, and nothing here is offered as professional advice of any kind. If you spot something wrong, tell me and I will correct it.

Availability

The site is free and provided on a best-effort basis. It may be offline, changed or withdrawn at any time without notice, and no liability is accepted for any loss arising from its use or unavailability, to the extent the law allows.

Links to other sites

Some pages link out to other websites, mainly for sources and further reading. Those sites are not under my control and I am not responsible for their content, their terms or their privacy practices.

Advertising

The site may display advertising in order to cover hosting costs. Adverts are supplied by third-party networks, which may set their own cookies and use them to choose what to show. That is described in the privacy policy, which also explains how to opt out of personalised advertising.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the site changes. The date at the top always shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Contact

Questions about these terms, corrections, permission requests or copyright concerns all go to the same place: the contact page. Copyright complaints are taken seriously and acted on quickly.
