A single, readable, honestly sourced Targaryen family tree. That should not be hard to find, and yet.
The problem this solves
Search for the Targaryen family tree and you get three kinds of result. Wikis where the chart is a nested table buried under eighteen thousand words of lore. Magazine articles that promise a family tree and deliver a list of character biographies with no diagram at all. And image charts that are perfectly good posters and completely unreadable on a phone.
What almost nobody offers is one continuous tree that runs from Aegon the Conqueror all the way to Jon Snow, covers all three television series, and that you can actually zoom into on the device you are holding.
What this does differently
- One tree, three shows. 179 people across twenty one generations, from before the Conquest to the end of Game of Thrones, without splitting into separate era charts.
- Readable at every zoom level. Pull back and you get names. Move in and each person gains dates, then epithets and dragons. The usual tradeoff between seeing the structure and reading the labels is the thing this was built to fix.
- Disputed facts drawn as disputed. Jon Snow’s parentage and Rhaenyra’s first three sons are shown with dashed lines, not asserted with false confidence.
- A page for every person. Every name on the chart is a real link to a real page with parents, spouses, children and sources.
- A relationship finder that shows every path. Ask how two Targaryens are related and you get all the answers, not just the shortest one, because in this family there is usually more than one.
- Free and downloadable. The whole chart is available as a printable vector file with no sign-up.
How it is built
The site is a static build. There is no database, no tracking beyond basic analytics, and almost no JavaScript: the entire interactive tree, search and relationship finder together come to a fraction of what a single advertisement usually weighs. Pages are generated ahead of time and served as plain files, which is why they open immediately.
Every date is checked against a citable source before it goes in. The sources page lists them, along with every point where the books and the shows contradict each other.
Corrections
Lore corrections are welcome and get fixed quickly, particularly with a citation attached. Send one here.
