On the Strong question. Fire & Blood is written as an in-world history and never states it outright, but every source in it converges. Ser Harwin Strong was her sworn shield and doted on the boys openly. Vaemond Velaryon said it aloud and was beheaded for it. Harwin and his father burned to death at Harrenhal in 120 AC. On this chart the boys are drawn as Laenor’s sons with a dashed line, which is the honest reading.

The part that actually decided the dynasty

Rhaenyra died in 130 AC and Aegon II in 131 AC. On the surface the Greens took the war. Now follow the line.

The throne went to Aegon III, Rhaenyra’s son by Daemon. His sons Daeron I and Baelor I followed. When that branch ran out, it passed to Viserys II, Rhaenyra’s other son, and from him to Aegon IV, Daeron II, Maekar, Aegon V, Jaehaerys II, and Aerys the Mad King.

Aegon II left no descendants at all. His only surviving child, Jaehaera, was married to Aegon III to seal the peace and died childless two years later. Rhaenyra is the ancestor of every Targaryen who came after, including Daenerys and Jon Snow.

How many children did Rhaenyra have?

Six. Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey during her marriage to Laenor Velaryon, then Aegon III, Viserys II and a stillborn daughter named Visenya with Daemon Targaryen.

Who is the father of Rhaenyra’s first three sons?

Legally Laenor Velaryon. The texts point overwhelmingly at Ser Harwin Strong, her sworn shield. All three boys had brown hair and brown eyes where both parents of record were silver haired and purple eyed.

Who did Rhaenyra marry?

Twice. Laenor Velaryon in 114 AC, a political match between two silver-haired houses, and after his death her own uncle Daemon Targaryen in 120 AC.

How is Daemon related to Rhaenyra?

He was her paternal uncle, the younger brother of her father Viserys I. Their marriage in 120 AC made him uncle and husband at once, an arrangement the Targaryens had precedent for.

Was Rhaenyra ever really queen?

She was crowned on Dragonstone in 129 AC and held King’s Landing for about six months in 130 AC. The maesters of the Citadel do not number her among the seventeen Targaryen kings, which is itself a political statement.

How did Rhaenyra die?

She was fed to Aegon II’s dragon Sunfyre on Dragonstone on the twenty second day of the tenth moon of 130 AC, in front of her son Aegon III. She was thirty three.

Is Rhaenyra an ancestor of Daenerys?

Yes. Every Targaryen monarch after 131 AC descends from Rhaenyra and Daemon through their son Viserys II, including Aerys the Mad King and therefore Daenerys and Jon Snow.
